Local Information
Great Orme Tramway
The Great Orme Tramway has been delighting visitors since it opened on July 31st 1902. An engineering marvel of its age, it's still the only cable-hauled tramway still operating on British public roads.
At the Halfway Station exhibition, discover the fascinating funicular tramway - then enjoy the spectacular ride to the top.
Re-live the experience of travel more than 100 years ago in the original tramcars - each named after a Saint. The whole tramway has been lovingly restored, ready for another century of service.

Great Orme Summit Complex and Cable Cars
On the Summit of the Great Orme are two distinct groups of buildings dedicated to the needs of visitors, even if the day is a trifle damp or a little windy. On the slightly higher ground is the Summit Complex, bars, restaurants, cafes, amusements and gift shops together with the Aerial Cable Car Station. Clustered alongside the Upper Tramway Terminus is the Great Orme Visitor Centre.
Folk have lived on the Great Orme for at least 8,000 years and probably much longer. The map outside the Visitor Centre will guide you to sites of outstanding beauty or historical importance and much more information is available inside, both from the displays and also the very helpful staff.
The Cable Car from the Happy Valley to the Great Orme Summit is, at over one mile each way, the longest Aerial Cabin Lift in the United Kingdom. It was built in 1969 and fully overhauled in 2006.
The four seater cars are carried on an endless cable over two miles long and which weighs over 17 tons. The lower cable car station (telephone 01492 876413) is on the lower slopes above the Happy Valley and the entrance is reached by the paths round either side of the building.
